Director
David Heldsinger is the Principal of Heldsinger Legal. He has over 30 years’ experience in providing practical, solutions-based advice on all workplace issues.
David has practiced as a workplace relations lawyer since 1992. He completed his articles at Linklaters Alliance in London (in 1990) and relocated to Perth (in 1996) to join Herbert Smith Freehills.
In 2008, David co-founded HLS Legal, a boutique workplace relations law firm noted for both the strength of its service offerings and the impact the firm made on the market in a short period of time. While at HLS Legal, David led a team of lawyers in two significant and successful Federal Court decisions: (a) the Allseas case (Allseas Construction SA v Minister for Immigration and Citizenship [2012] FCA 529, in which the Federal Court held that offshore workers carrying out pipe laying work did not require visas) and the Pocomwell case (Fair Work Ombudsman v Pocomwell Limited & Ors (No 2) [2013] FCA 1139, in which the Federal Court held that provisions of the Fair Work Act 2009 did not apply to workers employed on offshore drilling rigs). HLS continues to this day. David left HLS Legal in 2015 to establish Heldsinger Legal and, after a brief hiatus in late 2022 and 2023, David has returned to private practice again.
David is widely acknowledged as a leading workplace relations practitioner and brings experience and a pragmatic, conciliatory approach to the hotbed of workplace related issues and disputes.
David has a BA LLB (University of the Witwatersrand (1982-1987)) and a MA (University of Notre Dame Australia (2014)).
David is assisted by a Financial Controller and Legal Researchers.
David has extensive expertise in all areas of employment and workplace relations issues across a broad range of industries including maritime, construction, health, retail, banking and finance, oil and gas, education and telecommunications.
